We visualized that a strong movement of economic stability would help these community for their sustainable development. The women’s self help groups was initiated in the year 2006 with the intention to uplift the economic level of the Most Marginalized community through this their standard of living would be improved.
Through READ’s continuous efforts, the women are now organized into a federation called Sakkiyar Women’s Federation. There are around 825 women in the Federation across 43 villages. The Federation has given out more than 80 loans over the last year amounting to a total of Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
READ helps these women by facilitating and conducting regular meetings and strengthen their functions.
Apart from the economic development activities, women are empowered in leadership qualities, taught about the ill effects of child labour and they keep a watch in their respective villages to prevent children from becoming child labourers.
