The Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Railways have jointly taken an initiative to ensure the care and protection, security and well- being of run-away, unaccompanied and trafficked children who come in contact with the railways
READ in collaboration with CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) volunteers at the Erode Railway Station helps in identifying vulnerable children and bringing them into the safety net. These services are being provided to children who directly come into contact with the Railways, based on calls and cases reported to CHILDLINE 1098, and also walk-in referrals by concerned adults. Assistance to children includes the protection of children from exploitative situations, production before the Child Welfare Committee and restoration efforts, and linkages to long rehabilitative services.
Child-line rescued and intervene 181 children at Erode Junction with the help of Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE) and Shop keeper of Railway junction and most of the rescued cases are runaway, missing, begging and working. Railway child-line gives counseling to the rescued children and intervenes them through handing over to their parents or to concern persons and makes sure that the children are under a safe zone.
